Storm pressed the heel of his hand to the hard edge along the front of his pants. He’d always enjoyed watching a woman’s pleasure, whether she was with him or one of the other Midnighters. There was something ethereally beautiful that overcame a woman when she reached the peak of her passion. But Dawn’s release had been the most breathtaking of all.

He’d felt Derechos’s arousal and through him their Atan’s. It pulled him like there’d been an enchanted cord wrapped around his soul. He could have found them in the middle of the desert blindfolded. Knowing that they’d given Dawn a real-life recreation of her dream pleased him to no end. Derechos looked happier than he’d ever seen him and that joy felt like it rebounded back and forth between their links. He wanted to scoop Dawn up, take her back to their home, and claim her with Derechos in front of all his fellow warriors. But there was one small fact that bothered him.

The ook’at.

He’d never danced for her. It was a tradition that had survived for so long in their legends but so far only Rock and Jag had performed that particular ritual and only because he and his fellow Midnighters had pushed them for a traditional meeting. Now that his time had arrived, he didn’t relish the idea of a formal claiming dance. Since Derechos had already danced for her and felt her soul touch his, they knew she’d accepted them, even if she didn’t realize it herself. But he wanted to feel the pure heat of that connection himself.

It didn’t take long to return to the village, and he was pleased to see that the music had already started. A couple of men beat out a steady rhythm on traditional bowls. The sound rang out over them as the women’s voices rose to meet the same level. They sang of happy times and blessed unions. Of marked children born who grew to Midnighters and their Atans who stood by them and fought next to them. They were the stories and legends they’d all grown up with and were starting to see come true. Storm and Derechos both knew why the villagers had chosen these songs. Dawn had made an impression on them earlier and they wanted her to understand.

Their Atan stood transfixed as she watched some of the couples swing around in a traditional dance. Material spun out from the women’s arms like wisps caught on a warm breeze. “Wow, this is beautiful.” She sighed and squeezed their hands tighter.

Derechos looked over her head at him and nodded with a big smile on his face. Storm should have realized earlier that his brother would understand the ache he felt. Derechos was right. This would be the perfect opportunity. He bent down and pressed a kiss to her lips.

She gasped in surprise and then moaned softly as he slipped his tongue between her parted lips. As their kiss grew more passionate, Storm allowed his passion to rise up in him.
